Abu Dhabi launches ‘Golden Visa for Superyachts’

Abu Dhabi has added a new category to the existing UAE Golden Visa programme: the ‘Golden Quay’ initiative. This is specifically aimed at high net worth individuals who own a superyacht of at least 40 metres in length.

The initiative was launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and Yas Marina as part of the UAE Golden Visa programme. It offers 10-year, renewable residency permits, which are issued after official nomination by Yas Marina and ADIO.

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, explains that this initiative will strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a “world-class yachting destination” by providing easy access to the marina and exclusive visa facilitation.

The Golden Quay includes two main categories of applicants: private yacht owners with vessels over 40 meters in length and leading figures in the maritime industry.

Eligible industry executives include CEOs, major shareholders of yacht building companies, key yacht agents, yacht service providers and yacht insurers.

Nominations can also include immediate family members.

This wealth-based pathway is designed to “explore high net worth individuals with the emirate’s exceptional investment opportunities and thriving business ecosystem,” explains Zirbes of GCI UNIT UAE, who previously explained the rationale behind the UAE Golden Visa program: “They allow Golden Visa holders to come and spend,” he noted. This strategy is now being extended to the maritime luxury sector through the Golden Quay initiative.

The Golden Quay joins the growing list of Golden Visa programs in the UAE, which already includes dedicated categories for investors, scientists, academics, creative professionals, outstanding students, humanitarian pioneers and frontline medical personnel. This new category is the first Golden Visa based on an asset class in the maritime luxury sector.
