Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic congratulated Tucker Carlson for his controversial recent interview with Vladimir Putin, saying that the right-wing US journalist succeeded in overcoming “censorship”.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke to Tucker Carlson in Dubai on Monday and congratulated the right-wing talk-show host for his interview last week with Vladimir Putin, which critics say offered the Russian President a platform to peddle falsehoods.

“I congratulated him on his courage to do a really phenomenal interview with the president of the Russian Federation because, I would say, censorship is ubiquitous in today’s world,” Brnabic told Tanjug news agency.

Carlson’s interview with Putin made it possible for people to “hear things they cannot hear due to censorship”, she added.

Brnabic had a conversation with Carlson during the World Government Summit in Dubai. She subsequently announced that the US conservative will visit Serbia this year.

“He knows a lot about Serbia and said he is planning to come to Serbia in mid-2024 and that he extremely respects President Aleksandar Vucic, and I told him I look forward to seeing him,” Brnabic said.

Former Fox News host Carlson’s two-hour interview, which was published online, was primarily about the war in Ukraine and allowed Putin to justify his invasion of Russia’s neighbour.

Carlson, who was fired by Fox News last year, said in the introduction to the interview that Putin believes that “Russia has historic claims” to parts of Ukraine.

He also repeated Putin’s claim that there is a “war against Russia led by NATO”.

Carlson has already met Serbian President Vucic in August 2023 at the Serbian embassy in Budapest. He posted a video about the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), saying that Vucic is “a smart guy”.

Serbian Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali was also at the embassy with Vucic, and said that his oldest son is Carlson’s biggest fan.
