Serbia recognizes the contribution of the technology pioneer

BELGRADE, Serbia – Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced on Wednesday that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak will receive Serbian citizenship.

Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976, is a globally recognized technology pioneer. He is considered one of the fathers of the personal computer and contributed significantly to the development of Apple products such as the Apple II, the Macintosh and the iPhone.

Vučić said Wozniak’s contribution to technology was “unprecedented” and that it was “an honor” for Serbia. “We are proud that Steve Wozniak is now a Serbian,” said Vučić.

Wozniak, who was born in the United States, said he was “very honored” to receive Serbian citizenship. He explained that he and his wife Janet want to invest in Serbia and support the country.

Wozniak’s naturalization is based on a special provision in the Serbian Citizenship Law. Paragraph 19 of the law allows naturalization of people who make a “significant contribution” to Serbia and are therefore important to the country.

Wozniak’s naturalization comes as Serbia prepares for parliamentary elections on December 17. Vučić’s ruling party, the Serbian Progressive Party, faces a challenge from the opposition. Wozniak’s naturalization could give Vučić’s party a boost in popularity.
