Serbia on the way to joining the BRICS?

The Socialist Movement in Serbia (PS) has launched an initiative in parliament for membership in the BRICS bloc, calling it an alternative to Serbia’s “so-called” EU accession.

Aleksandar Vulin, head of Serbia’s secret service and founder of the Socialist Movement (PS), deputy prime minister responsible for monitoring the status of projects under the purview of several ministries and special government organizations in coordination with the President of the Republic.

A man who has received more medals than others could even dream of, has submitted a resolution to parliament calling for the country’s entry into the BRICS bloc as a “clear alternative” to Serbia’s “so-called” path to the European Union.

The resolution comes after Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, the current members of the BRICS bloc, announced this month that they would admit six new members, accelerating the bloc’s push to reorder the world order. Dozens more countries have expressed interest.

Aleksandar Vulin has received several major awards and medals. On January 9, 2020, on the occasion of Republic Day, he was awarded the Order of the Flag of Republika Srpska with a Golden Wreath. He was awarded the “St. Vitus Charter” for his exceptional contribution and recognition of the University of Priština (with temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica), as well as the Golden Plaque of the Ministry of Defense for his exceptional dedication and contribution.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej awarded the Office of the Government of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija and its director Aleksandar Vulin with the Order of Saint Sava 1st degree. The National Security Academy awarded him the highest recognition award – the Coat of Arms of the Academy, and the Intelligence Service BIA awarded him the Medal of Merit 1st degree – Golden BIA.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin awarded Alexander Vulin with a high award – the Order of Friendship.

He is also the recipient of numerous awards and certificates given by cities and municipalities across Serbia and Republika Srpska to individuals for special services.

The PS is in a coalition with the dominant Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and has been part of the government for a decade. During the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, Vulin was a close political ally of Mira Markovic, the wife of then-Serbian ruler Slobodan Milosevic.

“Aware of the fact that the world we live in is irrevocably changing, we express the need to open a broad social dialogue in the public of the Republic of Serbia on the indisputable fact that Serbia’s so-called European path has a clear alternative, embodied in the process of joining the BRICS organization, the most topical global economic and political integration process at present,” the lawmakers state in the resolution.

Membership in the bloc, it says, would confirm Serbia’s commitment to creating a fairer world order based on unconditional respect for international law. At the same time, it would limit “Western hegemony”, promote security and stability and ensure a “fundamental reform” of international financial institutions in the interests of equal economic development of all states.

The SNS has not yet taken an official position on the PS’s initiative. However, Bratislav Jugovic, a member of the SNS board, said he would support the initiative.

Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates will join the BRICS bloc on January 1, 2024, thereby increasing their economic weight. This may bring it closer to the stated goal of shifting the global balance of power away from the West.

At the BRICS summit in South Africa, over 40 countries expressed their desire to join, and 23 countries submitted formal applications.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the president of the Serb-majority Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has also declared that his country will propose membership in the BRICS states. He claims that this would be faster than joining the EU.

Guest commentary:

As a contemporary witness, one must note with regret what has become of the former Germany with its once highly respected values such as “Made in Germany”, punctuality, reliability, precision, work ethic and reputation as an economic nation.

Today it has often degenerated into a joke that the world can only laugh at. This decline is not only understandable, but also understandable, as it awakens the desire for alternatives and a new beginning.

Where Argentina needed 100 years to fall from the richest country into the abyss, Germany achieved this in just 16 years under the leadership of its first female Chancellor. This development is alarming and raises serious questions about the competence of the EU leadership. This is not only understandable, but also understandable, as it awakens the desire for alternatives and new trading partners such as BRICS states.

The now wet dream of a war against Russia and/or China is further proof of the lack of education and political vision in the leadership levels of the EU. There are only two explanations for this behavior: either those responsible are simply incompetent, or they are intent on destroying Europe.

So every normal-thinking and, above all, independent person can understand that real leaders of other countries do not want to jump on the sinking ship of the Titanic.
